During the 2023-2024 academic year, the university began a review of its mission, vision and core values. Upon the announcement of President Lapidus’ planned retirement, it was determined that a full review would be deferred and that a more limited, foundational review would occur in advance of President Hodge’s arrival in July of 2024.
A campus-wide committee conducted an inclusive and transparent process that included regular updates to the campus community and requests for feedback. A summary report of their activities, findings and recommendations can be viewed here:
As defined by the New England Commission of Higher Education's Standard 1.1, "The mission of the institution defines its distinctive character, addresses the needs of society, identifies the students the institution seeks to serve, and reflects both the institution’s traditions and its vision for the future. The institution’s mission provides the basis upon which the institution identifies its priorities, plans its future, and evaluates its endeavors; it provides a basis for the evaluation of the institution against the Commission’s Standards."
