Alumni Association

What is the Alumni Association? It's you!

Every graduate of Fitchburg State University (and its preceding institutional names) is a member of the Fitchburg State University Alumni Association. When you graduate from Fitchburg State you are not alone. You are part of a world-wide network of alumni.

Our mission is to support the university and its students by fostering opportunities for strong alumni participation and engagement, while participating in university events, educational enrichment activities, philanthropy, and building strong student-alumni relations.

The purpose of the Association is to promote the educational, professional, social and economic interests of the university. The Association strives to form close bonds among alumni, former students, current students, faculty, staff and the local community. The Association engages alumni in increasing numbers to participate though personal involvement and/or financial support of the university and the mission of the Association. The Alumni Association strives to be visible on campus and active participants in university life.

Volunteer

The Fitchburg State University Alumni Office works closely with the Alumni Association Board of Directors to integrate graduates within each aspect of the University community. While the Alumni Board and staff work to better the Fitchburg State experience and create a culture of Falcon Pride, they can't do it alone, we need your help!

Volunteers in leadership positions play a very special role in the advancement of Fitchburg State. They are the leaders whose time and talents inspire others' participation and financial support of the University.

Our volunteers give their time because they feel that the university is an important resource for the community and a vital part of the lives of our students. They feel the responsibility to "give something back" to the university after the experiences they enjoyed and benefited from while here, and their value to Fitchburg State is immeasurable.

Each volunteer offers their own unique talents and expertise for the benefit of the university and their fellow alumni. The Alumni and Development Office supports, guides, and assists volunteers to ensure that the experience is enjoyable, rewarding, and in direct support of the mission of Fitchburg State University. But our volunteers are leaders in their own right. Board members and committee chairs in particular assume roles with a high degree of authority, autonomy, and accountability.

All programs and events are paid for by the Alumni Association either directly or through ticket sales, but committee members often assist in cost management by providing valuable vendor contacts and soliciting group rates or discounts on behalf of the Alumni Association. Committee members also help by serving as or recruiting hosts of various regional alumni get-togethers and by promoting attendance at both free and ticketed alumni events.

Committee is also active in recruiting and utilizing alumni volunteers to support both the university and association missions. The committee actively works with Alumni Office and university staff to recruit alumni volunteers for: advocacy, admissions, recruitment, career services, campus tours, mentoring outreach, and advocacy for the university.

Committee also creates programs and events that encourage early and ongoing participation in the Alumni Association and that raise awareness of the Alumni Association among current Fitchburg State students. Examples include welcoming graduating students into the Alumni Association by hosting social and career networking events, welcoming incoming freshmen and their parents to the Fitchburg State community by hosting regional summer send-offs and participating in orientation or move-in days, and participating in events that bring alumni back to campus to interact with current students academically, socially, and athletically.
