Fitchburg State continued its streak of strong showings at the American Moot Court Association national championship, with a team finishing in the top 10 percent of teams in North America.

Through this partnership, Fitchburg State will offer 20 graduate-level professional development online courses that will allow current K-12 educators to build their skills while actively teaching in the classroom.

The agreement is designed to widen online learning opportunities for students, increasing access and affordability while also maintaining consumer protections.

The student competitors proved to themselves that they had what it took to compete with any undergraduate in the country in the highest level of legal debate, and that Fitchburg State students can go toe to toe with any other school’s best.

The competition pits students on opposing sides of a legal issue as in an appellate court proceeding, testing their facility with applying interpretations of the law before a panel of guest judges.

Fitchburg State students Abigail M. Kennefick and Aleah I. Fisher finished 25th in the country at the recent American Collegiate Moot Court Association national tournament in Florida.

Aleah I. Fisher, a pre-law major, and Abigail M. Kennefick, a senior majoring in political science, will be one of 80 teams competing in the national tournament.

The agreement gives students enrolled at Fitchburg High School’s Honors Academy priority admission to Fitchburg State as well as access to university courses, facilities and scholarships.
