All current out-of-state students may request reclassification as a Massachusetts resident for tuition purposes by submitting for review a completed residency reclassification form along with appropriate supporting documentation to:
Registrar
Fitchburg State University
160 Pearl Street
Fitchburg, MA 01420
All students must have been a resident in Massachusetts for a full calendar year prior to the semester for which they are applying for reclassified residency status. Being present in the Commonwealth solely for the purposes of attending college does not qualify a student for in-state residency. Residency status for dependent students is based on the parent’s legal state of residence regardless of where the student resides.
Any change in a student’s classification will be retroactive only to the beginning of the semester for which reclassification is approved.
- Proof of Residency Form (Dynamic Forms)
All deadlines for the payment of tuition, fees, and other financial obligations remain in force during the pendency of any request for reclassification or appeal.
A student may appeal a decision to deny his or her reclassification as a non-resident by submitting a written appeal to the Registrar. The decision on appeal is final and may not be appealed further.
