Police Mountain Bike Training: E-Bike Training

This one-day electric bike (e-bike) training is designed as a supplement to the three-day basic “Police Mountain Bike Training (PMBT)” course. All officers must have completed the three-day Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) course OR one accepted by the MPTC. The purpose of this training is to transition the skills of the conventional bicycle to the e-bike.  

Police Mountain Bike Training

Officers will: 

  • Participate in a discussion/lecture on e-bike laws.
  • Learn about different types and classes of e-bikes.
  • Practice basic e-bike riding techniques vs. conventional bikes. 
  • Practice safe e-bike handling while on patrol. 

Requirements:

  • No modified front wheel drive e-bikes may be used in the training. 
  • Officers must have completed the three-day PMBT prior to completing the one-day e-bike training. 
  • Bring an e-bike with them to the training. 
  • Register with Fitchburg State University prior to arriving at the training.

Instructor: Lieutenant Jeffrey Watson
Lieutenant Watson is a Municipal Police Training Committee and Bicycle Instructor Certification Program Level 3 instructor. He has a master’s degree in Public Administration, as well as one in Criminal Justice and Corrections. Jeff teaches police mountain bike classes throughout New England.
