Leadership

- Provide leadership, assistance, and support to students living in the residence halls
- Must qualify as a full time student, be enrolled in 12 credit hours, and maintain a semester and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0
- Assist students to implement learning principles and effective strategies
- Monitor/proctor the Tutor Service Center
- Be knowledgeable and identify educational/academic oriented student organizations, fraternities and societies
- Be knowledgeable about alternative educational opportunities
- Develop and implement programs that meet residents’ academic and educational needs
- Provide support to academic-focused Residential Living Communities (RLCs)
- Be available, visible, and approachable to the residents in the hall
- Learn about the morale of residents in the assigned residence area and identify potential conflicts
- Become knowledgeable about personal abilities and limitations and provide effective referrals

- Must be enrolled as a matriculating full-time (12+ credits/semester) student
- Must maintain a semester and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5
- Support, develop, and implement departmental events, programs, and initiatives
- Develop a working familiarity with the campus and its resources to assist residents
- Be available, visible, and approachable to the residents in the hall
- Learn about the morale of residents in the assigned residence area and identify potential conflicts

- Support minimum situational facility needs of the residence hall
- Serve in a rotating duty schedule
- Assist in covering a building’s front desk between one and two shifts per week
- Understand and articulate university and Housing and Residential Services policies and procedures
- Write reports as necessary, as trained on and instructed by professional staff
- Respond and assist with emergency situations
All Hall representatives of the RHA shall be invested in the general council and are expected to:
- Attend all general council meetings, programs and events
- Assist in the preparation and organization of events put on by the RHA, including but not limited to attendance at events sponsored by the RHA.
- Adhere to the Fitchburg State University core values and ethical standards.
- Hold office for a term of one (1) academic year, commencing in May
- Adhere to their individual position guidelines as outlined in Article VI Section 2
The Hall President shall:
- Be responsible for knowing the "ins and outs" of their residence hall areas (i.e. facilities issues, students' needs and concerns, programming desires, etc.)
- Report to the Resident Director each week on the status of their buildings (using the format they request)
- Assist the President in coordinating all surveys and efforts within their residence hall
- Actively present themselves as the Hall Representative within their area
- Assist in the designing, marketing and implementation of two (2) hall programs per semester in their area under the leadership of the Programming Chair
- Encourages the involvement of all resident students in RHA and its events
- Attend all RHA meetings
Employment
- Operate via the front desk of an assigned residence hall as an initial point of contact and resource
- Verify identities of persons entering the residence hall by departmental procedures and guidelines
- Address policy violations and be able to write necessary reports using the Maxient system.
- Answer the desk phone, make note of and forward any calls as appropriate.
- Serve as a positive role model in the community
- Other duties as assigned
- Schedule availability must be flexible.
- The shifts for this position run 24 hours, 7 days per week
- CDA shifts will be built based off of your class schedule as it appears in MyFalcon - time at the start of the semester will allow for permanent swaps/shift pick up to fill the schedule
- It is expected that all Community Desk Assistants have availability for at least four overnight weekday shifts (shifts that begin at or after 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday nights through to Friday mornings)
- It is expected that all Community Desk Assistants have availability for at least four weekend shifts (Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
- Ability to multi-task while providing excellent customer service to internal and external constituents
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Full time undergraduate student at Fitchburg State University (enrolled in 12+ credits each semester)
- GPA of 2.2 most recently completed semester and cumulatively
- Be in good conduct standing with the university (no active sanctions)
- Serves as a member of the departmental marketing team
- A minimum commitment of 12 hours a week up to a maximum of 20 hours a week is preferred
- Lead on the visual creation for the department’s social media accounts
- Assist in coordinating various marketing methods
- Audit department website and recommend edits
- Review and edit all graphic design related material
- Follow any verbal and immediate request for changes to materials/projects, etc.
- Must attend/participate in staff meetings, in one on one meetings with the supervisor and in the evaluation process
- All other duties as assigned

- Ability to utilize appropriate graphic design software to create materials
Apply to be a Graduate Assistant in Housing and Residential Services.
- Supervises Resident Assistants assigned to the residence area. Provides regular individual/group supervision on a weekly basis and completes written evaluations each semester
- Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants. Attends and participates in all in-service training for staff and assists in creating and implementing these trainings
- Provides leadership and support for staff and student programming efforts within their assigned residence area
- Manages the residence hall in coordination with staff members and appropriate offices to ensure proper day-to-day functioning of the building
- Responsible for opening the residence hall in the fall and after breaks, and for hall closings prior to breaks and the end of the academic year
- Forwards and follows-up with Maintenance Request Orders, and is responsible for being familiar with issues and concerns in their residence area
- Participates in rotating on-campus duty responsibilities in supervising the campus on weekends, weeknights, and vacation periods, and during emergencies
- Be attentive to the residential needs in such areas as safety, security, and emergency situations (i.e. wellness checks, work with University Police and Health and Safety Inspections).
- Responsible for explaining and enforcing departmental and campus policies
- All other duties assigned
- The GA must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled as a graduate student, must not be enrolled in more than 6 credit hours each semester without prior approval
- GA must seek approval to take non-GE/daytime undergrad classes
- Work in cooperation with and at the direction of professional staff
- Create an atmosphere of quality interaction, sharing accountability, and civic responsibility
- Return to campus early for all training
- Be present during RA training with the ability to assist
- Refer issues and concerns to your supervisor and support the plan(s) as guided by the supervisor
- Coordinate RA staffs’ duty schedules each semester
- Support of the desk attendant program by overseeing the Russell Towers front desk
- Attend one to two on campus educational workshops or professional development opportunities
- Serve on subcommittees with the Housing and Residential Services pro staff
