In Short

Provides student composers with an opportunity to build flexible music writing skills, through individual and group instruction in music theory and composition, as well as coursework that broadens the understanding and appreciation of the intersection of music and culture.

Overview

A music minor is a great choice for a student who is passionate about music, but who chooses to major in another field. Our programs aim to broaden, as well as deepen, students' understanding of the art of music.

The Music Theory/Composition minor provides aspiring student composers the opportunity to explore their passion and expand their horizons as they analyze the materials and techniques of a variety of musical compositions. Students then leverage those insights to craft their own original works, using both traditional and digital tools.

Many students have a serious interest in music and participate in our undergraduate ensembles, studios, and classroom courses, without pursuing either a major or minor.
