Megan Krell, Ph.D., originally grew up just outside of  Syracuse, New York, and comes from a long line of educators. Her mother was an early education teacher and her father was a middle school principal. She developed different academic interests, but always seemed to make her way back to education. In college, she specialized in middle school education since that was her favorite age group to work with. She went on to graduate from Northeastern University with a B.A. in Psychology and Human Services. Soon afterwards, she earned both her M.A. (in School Counseling) and Ph.D. (in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology) at the University of Connecticut.

Megan began her teaching career at Fitchburg State University in 2011, and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Human Services. She teaches a variety of courses including Interviewing Techniques, Research Methods in Human Services, and Group Work and Leadership in School Counseling. Her favorite part of being an educator is working with students who are thirsty for knowledge and experiences.

Her research interests include college and career readiness, support for individuals with disabilities, school counseling advocacy, along with experiential education. Throughout her career as an educator and researcher, she has mainly focused on assisting children go through various life transitions. During her time at FSU, she has published several academic articles related to the research she conducts. In 2012, she published “Providing College Readiness for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders” in Professional School Counseling. Just two years ago, she co-wrote the article “Interviewing Techniques Curriculum: Starting From Scratch” with fellow HMSV professor Mark Williams. This publication appeared in the CSHSE Bulletin in the Fall of 2020.

Megan lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two sons. They love the outdoors, hiking and traveling. One of their favorite places to visit is her hometown in the Syracuse, NY area.
