National Arab American Heritage Month

April is National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM), which seeks to celebrates the Arab American heritage and culture, as well as pay tribute to the contributions of Arab Americans and Arabic-speaking Americans.
More than 3.5 million Americans have Arab roots, according to the 2020 U.S. Census, with ancestries traced to 22 countries across the Middle East and North Africa.
First celebrated in 2017 as an initiative that only involved a few states and cities, Arab American Heritage Month first gained national recognition in April 2021, when then-President Biden became the first U.S. president to issue a proclamation making the celebration official.
We encourage you to learn more about Arab culture, history, and the accomplishments of Arab-Americans by visiting both our print display located on the Library's first floor, and a digital ebook display located at http://tiny.cc/NAAHMEbooks
