The U. S. Copyright Office provides resources and support for authors of various types of creative and intellectual works.

Resources include:

• Online tutorials for understanding the online copyright registration process
• Help files for understanding various forms of authorship as defined by copyright law
• The Fair Use Index which tracks court cases involving intellectual property law

SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) provides information related to copyright and publishing in open access journals. 

The Author’s Guild provides members with seminars, legal services and online resources for establishing and maintaining copyright for written creative works. It also provides advice and sample contracts to assist with retaining copyright when dealing with publishers.
